Background: Resmed provides enterprise healthcare software solutions for Geriatric care. I joined Resmed in May 2017 as a User Experience Designer and have been working on Fall Risk and Covid-19 Severity Risk for the past one year .

My Role : User Research, Interaction Design Lead , Service Design. I have been leading the experience design effort for this project and : working closely with engineering and product management to deliver design solutions that meet user needs and aligns with business needs.

Project Brief : How might we use existing patient data to provide actionable health insights to provide better care and reduce risk of unfavorable health events ?

My Design Process :

  • Needs analysis and gathering information from business through UX Design Studio Sessions.

  • Understanding the value for the end user and value for business.

  • Validating the need by user surveys, user interviews and data from gain sight analytics.

  • Create a project design document :
    This document helps to rally the entire product team to be on the same page and help set expectations. The document mentions what problem will the feature or module solve for the user , what is the success metric or criteria , who are the users we are designing for, What is the user task flow like, Creating a customer journey map, What are some desired features at a high level, what are unknowns, and what are some design activities we could do

  • Scoping the project based on timelines

  • Creating low and medium fidelity mockups.

  • Conducting formative test to validate designs and workflows with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Iterating workflows as necessary

  • Conducting summative tests for validating designs and workflows with external stakeholders.

  • Delivering mockups to Front End Developers.

  • Conducting UX reviews during the sprint as the developers are coding.

WORK HIGHLIGHTS

Solution 1 : Covid-19 Severity Level dashboard , using machine learning algorithms it predicts if a patient were to have an episode of Covid -19, how severely will the patient be affected based on existing health conditions and past healthcare data.

Solution 2 : Patient Fall Risk Dashboard for Director of Nursing at Skilled Nursing Facilities to determine patients who are at high risk of a fall and need care interventions to reduce the risk of the fall. The solution uses machine learning models to determine the fall risk using existing patient data.

Impact :

Based on feedback from pilot release to a subset of our clients. The Patient Fall Risk Dashboard helped clients to reduce number of falls per month in their facility by 30%, This helped clients improve healthcare outcomes and save dollars for the patient and the facility.

Based on feedback from pilot release to a subset of our clients. The Covid-19 Severity Level dashboard helped clients to identify residents who might be at high risk of having severe Covid-19 episodes (*In the event, a patient contracts Covid-19) and change their care plan along with their position/location in the facility to reduce risk of contracting Covid-19.
