About the Project
Hibersense is a startup at Alphalab Gear , Pittsburgh that focuses on the development of a smart temperature control ecosystems aimed at creating a unique and personalized temperature experience for people in residential and commercial spaces .
Project Brief : Design a digital experience for controlling the temperature at home
Team : 2 Software Engineers, 1 Electronics Engineer, 1 Researcher
My Role : Human computer interaction - Intern, UX Design, Project management, User research, Systems design .
Duration : 10 Weeks
(This project contains a few glimpses of the complete scale of the solution due to Non-disclosure agreements with Hibersense)
PROJECT STRATEGY
PHASE 1 : introduced design thinking
Team bonding : I spent the first week bonding with the team and understanding what Hibersense does.
Design thinking : Shared design methodologies and processes I had applied in my past projects.
Startup culture : Created a lean design approach that would work within the fast pace environment of a startup
Phase 2 : Framing scope
Interviewed users to understand their temperature preferences at home
Initial Scope : How can we facilitate the users to interact with Hibersense to make their temperature experience at home
comfortable ?
Customer journey mapping
REFRAMING SCOPE
Designing a experience to maximize desirable personalized temperature outcomes by encouraging lesser user interactions
Experience Goals for Web App
User should be able to communicate how they feel about the temperature at home
The web app should understands the user’s needs with machine learning and optimizes the temperature
User should have the flexibility of selecting different temperatures for different spaces.
Stakeholder Map - Hibersense
Phase 3 : prototyping
Mind Map for Hibersense
Creating a mind map to understand data touch points for the user and the system
LOW fidelity IDEATION
Some pain points: ( USability testing )
" When i register a temperature change, I can't exactly figure am i needed to do anything else "
- Vice President ( Pittsburgh Urban Redevelopment Authority)
" I am unable to interpret the temperature history graphical data"
- Facilities Manager ( Pittsburgh Urban Redevelopment Authority)
" How would I be able to control access points for my users ?
- Administrative Assistant ( Pittsburgh Urban Redevelopment Authority)
MEDIUM-Fidelity Prototype
Designed medium fidelity mockups to test users reaction to color and corresponding temperature.
PHASE 4 : Ecosystem experience
Deliverables
High fidelity mockups with suggested user and task flows.
User guide to setup the hardware and software
Suggestions to improve the physical product design of the sensor casing and hub.
Recommendations for packaging design and unboxing
